Clay pinch pot workshop with Barbara Oliver
A wonderful afternoon spent at the clay pinch pot workshop with Barbara Oliver in her super garden
She was an excellent teacher describing the different types of clay and their purposes, showing us examples of the types of pots which can be produced with the pinch method and many of us produced a couple of pieces. We used clay from her garden and also compared this with purchased clay which was much finer in texture She explained the use of the various implements and tools to decorate the pots and showed infinite patience when we had no idea what we were doing.
Next stages are the drying out of the clay pots and then firing in the kiln. Afterwards I believe we might go back and decorate.
What a lovely experience. Thank you Barbara

Charcoal Painting with Alan Howlett
On February 11th 2026 Sussex Creatives welcomed Mr. Alan Howlett who presented an excellent workshop on charcoal painting with some award winning examples of his work.
The 15 attendees, both members and visitors, enjoyed an inspiring and relaxing time producing abstract and other paintings.
Most of the attendees had not worked with charcoal before and many felt they would like to continue having learned the techniques.
Thank you Alan

Our previous demonstration took place at Union Corner Hall on 8th October 2025, and was very well attended.
The demonstration was presented by Sylvia Huggair and focused on working with pastels. During the session Sylvia covered different types of pastels, pastel papers, oil and blending, techniques and styles.

The exhibition at Alfriston in July 2025 was a great success for all, the weather was lovely and on both days we had in excess of 200 people attending. We had Tony Biggins from Hailsham festival arrive in support of a very successful and well organised day.
See below for some images from the day and look out for details of our next event!
